Donald Trump shared a video to try to show how the media manipulated the information. Ironically, his message was called “manipulated media” by Twitter.
Between Twitter and Donald Trump, relations have not been looking good for a few weeks already. The social network pinned two messages from the President with the tag “Check the facts about the postal vote.” Suffice to say that the politician did not appreciate and that he hastened to react by asking for a regulation of the American platform. Stung to the heart, he spoke of a new decree aimed at “strongly regulating or shutting down” social networks.
“Terrified toddler flees racist baby”: no
Against this backdrop, Twitter continues to apply its new fake news reporting policy, something that has spared Donald Trump — once again. On June 19, the man shared a video in which we can see a white child chasing a black child. A false CNN television banner was displayed under the montage, so it was displayed: “Breaking News: A terrified toddler is fleeing a racist baby.”
Subsequently, we can see the reality of the situation, namely that the two children ran towards each other to end up with a hug before continuing to run in the same direction. The video ends, ironically enough, by stating, “America is not the problem, fake news is not.” At the time of writing, the one-minute video has been viewed over 11.5 million times.
The purpose of the video was to show that CNN, Trump’s sworn enemy, is sharing information manipulated to serve the president. Except that the content is the work of @carpedonktum, otherwise known as Logan Cook, a memes creator who supports the politician and regularly shares content on the sadly controversial (and very racist) sub-reddit r / The_Donald.
Twitter applied its rules by displaying the label “manipulated media” under the video. By clicking on the latter, we find information on the fact that CNN has never displayed such a banner or produced a montage like the one presented at the beginning of the video.
