The Polaroid Lab prints the photos of your smartphone

There are several ways to print photos you take with your smartphone. But, most of them actually require to transfer a digital file from your smartphone to any computer. Nevertheless, the Polaroid Lab is trying a new approach.

With this one, you can print the photos of your smartphone on a Polaroid movie, which gives you an instant and physical image. The Polaroid Lab definitely seems to be a niche product, but for those who miss the glory days of instant cameras, this could be an interesting purchase.

The Polaroid Lab was presented today through a new video, which does not tell us much about the camera itself. In the video, we see users placing their smartphone face down on the top of the device, pressing a button on the Lab’s chassis, and then getting a Polaroid-style impression of the photos chosen on their smartphone.

According to a brief takeover of The Verge, the process is (or perhaps at least) a little more complex than that. Users must download the Polaroid Originals app before they can print their photos with the Lab. This application will help you make sure your phone is properly aligned when you place it on top of the printer, and it will also allow you to adjust image settings like exposure and color correction.

You can print your photos as individual Polaroid photos or as collages with nine separate images, and in the Polaroid Originals app, you can even assign a video to an image. This way, when you look at the photo using the Originals application, the video is played for a bit of augmented reality fun.

Years ago we saw something similar with the Impossible Project Instant Lab, so the Polaroid Lab seems to be the next iteration. The Verge reports that the Polaroid Lab will use any instant movie except the SX-70 and works with the iPhone 6 or later, and the “most” of Android smartphones.
