The recovery of lost data can not be done without specialized software, i offer here a method with free software that also offers other possibilities.
Step 1: download free data recovery software
For starters, whether you’re using a Windows computer or a Mac, you’ll need to install free data recovery software to help you recover lost information on your SD card or USB stick.
In my example, I use the free iSkysoft data recovery software.
Step 2: install the software and launch it
Once the software is installed on your Windows PC or Mac, launch it.
You should then see the home page of the software with all the features it offers:
Recovering deleted files
Recycle Bin recovery
Formatted disk recovery
Lost partition recovery
Recovering external devices
Recovering data after a virus attack
Recovering data from a planted system
Universal recovery
In my case, we will be interested in the functionality “recovering external devices”.
Step 3: recover lost information on your USB drive or SD card
Before you begin the process of recovering lost data, you will need to start by connecting your USB stick or SD card to your computer/Mac.
Select the USB key or SD card on which you want to recover data (photos, videos, documents,…)
The software is able to recover photos, music, videos and documents. Then click on the device to inspect and click on “start”
Once this step is passed, the software will present you the files, photos, videos and documents that you can retrieve
Select all documents to be recovered and click the green “recover” button
Then choose where you want to save the documents to be recovered and finalize the recovery
After you follow these steps, you should have recovered at least some of your lost files.
